An extremely rare opportunity to acquire an un-restored, unmolested ‘M series’ Overdrive Derby Bentley. Built in 1939, but not registered until February 1940, five months after the outbreak of war. Although in need of fairly major renovation, the body is sound, no ‘sag’ in the doors, despite the slender construction, and the car is correct, complete and attractive. The wheels have recently been painted and fitted with new tyres, but otherwise the car is as found after a long period of storage. The engine is running, and sounds good. We love cars such as this in just out of hibernation condition, and we hope you do as well!

Chassis No. B155MX.                                                                     £42,500.

Snippets:   Delivered to J. Westwood of Dunsley, Kinver whose family firm of Chainmaking was established in the mid 19th century at Cradley Heath (Titanic’s anchor chain was forged in Cradley Heath by Hingley & Sons).  After WWII B155MX was with J. R. Lilley in Allestree – his family business of tapes & webbing for furniture was founded by Horatio Lilly in 1885 and by the 1930s the family were major employers in the Derby area; owning the Parliament Mills, Agard Mills, Tykneld Mills, Dean Street Mills & City Textiles.  By 1952 B155MX had moved to be with Dr C Glynne Owen whose home - Southwell House, Eccleshall, dates from 1666. Dr Owen was a car enthusiast & in 1942 owned a Riley March Special which was feature in the Autocar publication of that year.  During the 1950s & 60s B155MX was under the command of Lt Col Charles S Vose who was stationed in Madrid, Spain until he was transferred to the White Sands Missle Range in March 1967.  Col Vose later served at the West Point Military Academy in New York (founded March 1802), B155MX remained with him until 1969 when it was sold to Dr. Frieda S. Trainor, PhD at the Veterans Army Hospital, Castle Point in New York, she kept B155MX until 2003 when it was sold to F. Pizzuto  Snr who had also served with the US Army in WWII being stationed in the Sth Pacific. In 1922 his father established the Pizzuto Bus Lines which was run by F. Pizzuto until the late 1970s.
